1979 Bronco Custom. Still going thru rebuild A nation wide club with local chapters would be real cool. What about a decal for the club? Theres alot of wrecking yards, and little rust, maybe I can find parts out here.

My '79 is currently red w/ black between the trim (XLT) and black top, which I remove in the summer (don't need A/C now). It's still down, right now I have the front clip off about to pull my 400. I get my 460 shortblock on Monday, I'm excited. I have my Weiend Stealth intake, but I'm waiting still on my L&L full length inside the frame rail headers from JBG, as well as a $5000 check from the university (should fund the remainder of my motor). I'm looking at MSD Billet distributor, MSD 6-Off-Road or 6al ignition, Edelbrock high flow water pump(off recommendation from Paul E), 3" dual exhaust w/crossover and Flowmasters (I'm gonna risk leaving the cats off, I passed 3 times without them on my 400), & Optima Red Top battery. Any recommendations for carb, Roller rockers (1.5,1.7, or 1.73), damper(Fluidamper?)? I can't find valve covers that I like either, I want black crickle aluminum or polished, any ideas? If you have any recommendations against the parts I've been looking at, please let me know.

Sound real good! On the distributor, I'd use a vacumn and mechanical advance. Reno's smog is, as long as it passes and the gas filler neck is the right one. The only problems we have are when its time to sell. The Bronco has to be equiped as it can from the factory, its an EPA law. I have the series 50 3 chamber flowmasters on mine. I think 2 1/2 is good, 3 " probly OK, its the back presure for the engine to run right you know. I have heard alot of possitive on the Optima batteries. Cam, 1.73 PAW book has a Ford roller cam that bolts right up and no machining, but is over 300.00 bills. Fluiddampner is good, just not sure on Top RPM running life. Check Ford Motor Sport for the valve covers direct from Ford. Carb use a Carter the Edel's are junk from what I have heard from around Reno. One last thing, the cross over in real life didnt make all that much diff. Plus if you have to do work on your tranny or t-case to might have to cut your pipes out to get to parts. A friend did it and now cannt service his auto trans.

Thanks Terril. I don't plan on ever selling so I should be cool. Many recommendations on Carter, I'm thinking about 650-750 cfm.
I got my short block & heads today. I'm mating them tomorrow. I have to wait until mid-next week to add my intake and oil pan, though, because I have to wait for my shop to get my ARP Engine bolt kit. I want the Stainless Steel kit and Summit only had black oxide and needed 2 weeks for the SS kit. I also need a digital camera so that I can document my install for Paul E. L&L's should be here soon. Ooooooh, I'm excited. chris
So there are others from Reno in this group!! Great!! My names Chris and I live and work in Reno. I drive a 78 F150 Ranger 4x4 (used to have a 79 bronco, but sold to fund the 78), blue and gray, pretty stock. I'll keep a lookout for everyone else. It's amazing how many 78-79 fords there are in town.
