I am going to swap out the C6 to a T18 in my 78. I have gathered a pile of parts, but a couple of things are going to need settled so I figured to get a(nother) thread going to get input and document the progress. The critical issues seem to be the flywheel and pilot bearing from all the swap threads I've read. It made sense to me to use a 79 externally balanced engine, so that's what I'm assembling now to allow the use of the flywheel I pulled from an 87 F250. The casting # on the flywheel is D9TE, so it should be a correct fit/balance. I have a brand new diaphragm clutch that was on the flywheel and I am hoping to be able to replace the ZF disc with a T18 disc and retain the pressure plate. Has anyone attemted this? The ZF had a hyd. clutch so I don't know if the mechanical linkage will operate this clutch correctly. The bellhousing is a regular 70's Bronco/F-series bellhousing. The T18 and NP205 are out of a 78 Bronco. The crossmember they are on was home made out of 1/4" plate, so I need to locate or build a decent crossmember if the C6/205 crossmember is different. Any input is appreciated. Jim

i did same swap a few months ago but with a 351m only problem i ran into was if you have a 79 you need a brake and clutch pedal assembly out of a 79 not a 78.

your 70s bellhousing will have clearence issues with that D9TE flywheel you need the later belhousing the easy one to find would be out of a 84-89 4spd 460 truck
you should be able to swap the disc for a small input spline disc to fit your T18 with little problem

UPDATE: I spent 6 months out of town on a job, so I am just getting caught up on my real life tasks and getting back into the garage. The project became a little more involved when I bent a rod in the 460, so it's in the machine shop getting bored and line honed and decked. I have a fresh rotating assembly and DOVE-C heads, the trusty 268H cam and PJ gear drive will go back in it. With all this going on, I am now at the point of building the whole powertrain (460, T18, 203 range box, 205) as an assembly on a stand in my garage. As this takes place I will get some pictures taken of things as they go together.

Time for the annual update to this thread... ZF swap is done, 203/205 doubler is behind it. The clutch pedal/mc was the hard part. It is truly an awesome swap if you don't mind doing some fab work.

If you have the whole manual clutch/brake pedal assembly, trans, etc. out of a 78 F150 is it not interchangeable in both 78 and 79 Broncos, maybe with changing the brake booster?

I would think so, but I haven't done that particular swap. I have noticed many different versions of the frame bracket for the z bar pivot, and many different upper and lower rod lengths. I pulled everything off the same rig when I was gathering the parts for the T18 swap. I ended up installing the 1990 hydraulic clutch, so I modified the 1978 clutch pedal bellcrank to run the master cylinder on the firewall.

I did that swap from a 77 f150 Into my first Bronco. I found that I needed to swap the brake boster and master cylinder. Other than that it was all a direct swap.
